An electrolyte panel is a blood test that measures the amount of electrolytes (minerals) in the blood. An electrolyte imbalance could indicate a heart, lung, or kidney problem. Electrolyte imbalances are also caused by dehydration. In addition to the electrolyte panel, your provider may order an anion gap test to determine why certain electrolyte levels are too high or low.
