Description
Amylase is an enzyme, which is a type of protein that aids in the breakdown of carbohydrates in the body. Amylase is produced by the pancreas and salivary glands in your mouth.
Amylase is found in small amounts in your blood and urine. However, excessive levels can indicate a health problem.  A high amylase level may indicate a problem with your pancreas. A low amylase level may indicate a problem with the pancreas, liver, or kidneys, as well as cystic fibrosis.
